Here we have a real life General Lee movie car. This 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee replica has been built from real movie car parts from the 2005 movie “Dukes of Hazzard.” The previous owner worked on the set of the 2005 “Dukes of Hazzard” movie as a picture car mechanic. A CANONSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA CAR DEALER NAMED DON YENKO IS THE CHEVY EQUIVELENT OF FORD’S CARROLL SHELBY. YENKO HAD A REPUTATION FOR BUILDING, DRIVING, AND SELLING MUSCLE CHEVY CORVAIRS. EVENTUALLY HE INSTALLED 427 CID CORVETTE V-8′S IN 1967 AND ’68 CAMAROS. HIS PRODUCTION CARS COST 00 TO PURCHASE. YENKO SPORTS CARS, INC. HAD DEALER OUTLETS IN 19 STATES. BECAUSE ENGINES HAD VERY LIMITED WARRANTIES, CHEVROLET MADE A DEAL WITH YENKO TO BUILD CAMAROS WITH 427 POWERPLANTS AND THAT CAME WITH A FIVE YEAR OR 50000 MILE WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH YENKO ORDERED 201 CAMAROS, OTHER DEALERS COULD ORDER THESE AS WELL SO AT LEAST 500 ARE KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN BUILT – BUT ONLY 201 YENKOS. YENKO DID PRODUCE OTHER CHEVY PRODUCTS BESIDES CAMAROS. ENGINES WERE THE SAME HAVING SOLID LIFTER L72 427′S WITH THE IRON BLOCK AND HEADS. THESE PRODUCED 459 BHP THAT WAS CONTROLLED BY A HURST 4 SPEED MANUAL OR DUAL- GATE AUTOMATIC, HEAVY DUTY Z28 SUSPENSION, AND A HEAVY DUTY POSI. ALL HOODS HAQD COWL INDUCTION SCOOPS. THE WHEELBASE MEASURED 108 INCHES, AND WEIGHED IN AT 3500 LBS. 0 – 60 MPH IS TIMED AT 5.4 SECONDS! THE QUARTER MILE TOOK 13 AND A HALF SECONDS. NOW HERE’S A TRUE STORY THAT IS AS RARE AS THIS CAR. THE OWNER OF THIS CAR WANTED TO BUY AND RESTORE A YENKO CAMARO. HE FOUND THIS CAMARO MINUS THE ENGINE. SO HE WENT ON A HUNT FOR AN ORIGINAL TYPE YENKO ENGINE AND EVENTUALLY HEARD ABOUT A YENKO ENGINE IN SOUTH CAROLINA. WHEN HE ARRIVED TO CHECK THE ENGINE OUT TO BUY, HE DISCOVERED THAT THE SERIAL NUMBER …

Only 69 COPO ZL-1 Camaros were built, and this is number 63. A late-production example, it is equipped with many options not typical of early-production cars. The performance from its ZL-1 427 V-8 is simply unbelievable! It will be offered November 13th, 2010 at the Robson Collection in Gainesville, Georgia. Visit rmauctions.com for more information.
